To achieve endless behavior health and happiness through enhanced understanding, consistency, and patience, imparted through private lessons, group classes and special workshops. PLEASE: No Choke Chains, Prong Collars or E Collars allowed in class.

We recommend – Flat Collars, The Wonder Walker Harness or Gentle Leader (all sold at The Barking Dog). Please use a 6 foot leather or nylon leash, No Flexi (retractable) Leashes allowed. Classes are all Positive Reinforcement -Treat Reward Classes.

MAKE-UP CLASS POLICY: Please let your INSTRUCTOR know if you will be missing a class ahead of time. We are only able to accommodate make-up classes if we have been alerted ahead of time. Because of the different training calendars that our classes are on as well as limitation of classroom size, make-up sessions are not always possible. If we have room in another class and you have let us know ahead of time we will be able to help accommodate a make-up; if there is no space available then a make-up class is not an option.

Jeze Santiago
Dog Trainer

A certified canine trainer and American Kennel Club’s (AKC) Canine Good Citizen® evaluator, Jeze Santiago is a well-known expert in canine obedience and behavior modification in the greater Phoenix area. He has experience training over 4,000 dogs and parents in the valley over his 10 year career. Jeze has worked with all types of dogs to assist pet parents in developing a strong bond with their pet, establish the parents’ leadership role, and effectuate behavior modification and all levels of obedience. He is considered an expert in the canine aggression field, using positive reinforcement training methods. Jeze is active in numerous pet rescue organizations, and a high percentage of his students have graduated to become C.G.C certified through the American Kennel Club. Many of Jeze’s students have gone on to be successful therapy dogs working with Gabriel’s Angels, Sunshine Residential Homes, The Phoenix Children’s Hospital and The Arizona State Veterans hospital.

Michelle O’Neill
Dog Trainer
The Barking Dog would like to extend a big welcome to Michelle O’Neill who has just joined our canine training staff!  Michelle  recently relocated to Arizona from the state of  Michigan  where she had been a  dog trainer for 15 years.  Michelle brings with her a wealth of experience in teaching, motivating, and encouraging people and their dogs.  She is a true dog-lover who possesses an excellent understanding of advanced dog training methodologies, and takes great joy in teaching through a positive, and motivating approach which enables owners to develop a stronger bond with their dogs. Michelle is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator since 2007, and has successfully competed with her Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier in AKC Obedience and Nose-work competitions with multiple titles! Training dogs is a true passion for Michelle, and she’s looking forward to assisting AZ dog owners in raising good canine citizens!

Private Training in your home- By Appointment

STAR Puppy
Age:10-24 weeks (at the time the session begins), with at least one set of vaccinations
Class Length: Six – 50 minute sessions;
Class Size: up to 8 dogs, (minimum 4 dogs per class)
Cost: $175.00 includes handouts
What’s Covered:This class is our foundation class for teaching the skills of sit, down, stays, wait at doors, impulse control, coming when called, walking on a leash, leave it, and focus.
Our socialization is not just meeting other puppies, we have puppy agility tunnels, wobble boards, different surfaces to walk on, and things for the puppies to climb on. This is all part of building a confident puppy.
At the completion of the program, your puppy is eligible to earn the AKC STAR Puppy certificate.

 

Beginner Life Skills
Age: 6 months to Adult
Class Length: Six – 50 minute sessions
Class Size: up to 8 dogs, (minimum 4 dogs per class)
Cost: $175.00 includes handouts
What’s Covered:You and your dog will learn more than just basic obedience, you will learn the importance of home management, relationship building and the principles of socialization. We will also address common behavior problems such as Jumping, Barking, House Training and Listening. Come have some fun and learn how to create a great relationship with your dog using Positive training techniques.

 

Obedience with a Twist
(For dogs who have graduated STAR Puppy or Beginner Life Skills)
Age: 6 months to Adult
Class Length: Four – 60 minute sessions
Class Size: up to 8 dogs, (minimum 4 dogs per class)
Cost: $135.00
What’s Covered:If you don’t want all the formal obedience, then this class is for you. It’s a combination of agility, tricks and obedience. We will touch on tunnels, platform training and tricks. We incorporated recalls, loose leash walking, stays, and leave it, into fun games!

Beyond Basics
(For dogs who have graduated Obedience with a Twist)

Age: 6 months to Adult
Class Length: Four – 60 minute sessions
Class Size: up to 8 dogs, (minimum 4 dogs per class)
Cost: $135.00
What’s Covered:We will concentrate on attention, both building it and keeping it. Behaviors learned are Go To, Timed Stays, Finish, Heeling, and Recalls from a wait. We test for the Canine Good Citizenship Award. The CGC is a 10-step test. All dogs, including purebreds and mixed breeds, that pass the CGC Test will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. If you want to do therapy having your CGC is mandatory. A plus to having your CGC could actually be lower homeowners’ insurance.

Oh-Gility!
(For dogs who have graduated a Basic Obedience Class)

Age: 12 months to Adult
Class Length: Four – 60 minute sessions
Class Size: up to 8 dogs, (minimum 4 dogs per class)
Cost: $120.00
What’s Covered:This is a fun class that introduces you to tunnels, jumps, weaves and platforms. We will incorporate wait and stay commands, recalls and control work. This is a great class for building confidence in your dog and strengthening your bond between the two of you.

Scent Games
(For dogs who have graduated a Basic Obedience Class)

Age: 6 months to Adult
Class Length: Four – 60 minute sessions
Class Size: up to 8 dogs, (minimum 4 dogs per class)
Cost: $100.00
What’s Covered: This class will introduce you and your dog into the sport of nose work. In this class we will build on your dog’s natural ability to scent and provide positive feedback when the target odor is found. This class is great for building self confidence in your dog and strengthening your bond between the two of you.

Rattlesnake Proofing

Cost: $150.00
What’s Covered: Train your dog how to avoid a fatal encounter with a Viper. We use fresh rattlesnake sheadings belonging to AZ Western Diamondback, Black Tail, Mohave, and Speckled rattlesnakes in an obstacle coursesetting to teach an immediate negative association.

Water Safety
